sorry if me saying this makes you hate me for life. :(
Of course not, why should I?!

Anyway, I've sent the mail (which had to go to GT Interactive, by the way). Now I'll just have to wait and hope. And try those other forums, of course.

I know i say this all the time, but you could duel boot with Win 98SE.I think its worth it if your into older\obscure DOS games.
That would also let you use Mapedit without all the instability Lizzy.

That's very true, i mean it does save a lot of time trying to get it to work on XP. CHYROS why don't you give it a try, see if that's the best solution for me and you (everyone else) can use. Good idea Lord Molder :D .

Suppose I could try that. Still, it's hard for me to bear it do "downgrade" my computer, just because Microsoft is such a stupid company.

Your not downgrading, your getting the best of both worlds.Have a Google around for some duel boot programs....they allow you to install Win 98SE AFTER you have XP installed.I had a good one that only had a tiny 2 second nag screen when you boot up.Something tells me your not a fan of Microsoft,CHYROS!!! Hey,try getting this thing running on Linux!! :D

Hmmmmmm...here is the one i was using http://www.osloader.com/...but it seems its not just a nag screen anymore :( but depending on your conscience......im sure you could Google something up....
Its been a while since ive done any of this..as far as i remember you will need to make a seperate FAT32 partition on your hard disc before you start. And you should back up anything ultra important on your drive first though, just incase!! And installing Win 98 is a bit tricky with all the DOS commands, but if i can do it...anyone can.

Here is a free one...http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Boo ... AG-d.shtml

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q221829 ... 0121120120
This link should help with the install.
its all a bit involved, but youll feel proud of yourself after you get it all going!! :D

Bugger that other link, this one is miles better,as it assumes your doing the install from a Win98SE cd for one thing!!!!
http://www.windowsreinstall.com/win98/install98cd/
if your not using a bootable cd see the OEM instruction (if your booting from a floppy the only real difference is choose `start computer with cd rom support`

you know what, I think GTI has just typed this to try and get rid of me. If so, they tried it with the wrong person.

GTI no longer exists, and the domain has actually been squatted as I recall. Infogrames (Now renamed Atari) purchased GTI and all of its assets, so that is how you would need to contact, but good luck with that, its all been tried before to put it mildly.

Yeah, I should have guessed that. Still, I'm gonna try and do the dual booting today. Hope that works.
