help!! no sound on win 2000 xp

i followed it to a tee ... all was good till i got to step 8
still wont reconize any avalible selections.........
but the good news is the game works just have no sound
and i miss them badly >>>>>...............
Mplayer is gone
and no one plays at kali anymore !
where did everyone go ??????
